From the moment visitors began arriving at the Craig A. Moe Multiservice Center in Laurel, the excitement was buzzing.
Priority Partners joined up with Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services (LARS) on April 5 to help celebrate their Third Annual LARS Community Resource Fair & Grocery Giveaway, and what a big day it was! This fun and free event was open to the public and featured over 30 organizations sharing resources and information to the more than 500 guests and families in attendance.
The LARS mission is all about working to restore hope and well-being to diverse and underserved communities. All people are entitled to have their basic needs met. LARS assists individuals and families in need to attain self-sufficiency, stability and well-being.
The heart and soul of the LARS On the GO! program, the LARS Mobile Food Pantry, was also at the event, providing nutritional food and case management services to visitors. The LARS On the GO! program helps people who have disabilities or are underserved due to limited mobility.
What made the event extra warm and fuzzy was a special appearance by Cubby, Priority Partners’ superstar mascot of its Cupboards Project. The Cupboards Project is a program that helps communities in need of access to nutritious foods by building and stocking neighborhood self-service mini-pantries. Local residents can take what they need and leave what they can.
Cubby delighted guests, handing out free stress balls and high-fives and making all feel welcome. Take a “paws” to learn more about Cubby and see where he’ll be next!
Priority Partners and LARS share a common commitment to improve community access to healthy foods and work toward solutions that help communities overcome barriers to health care, such as race, disabilities, income or education level.
