Last summer, we launched our 2024 Priority Partners Book Scholarship program — our second book scholarship exclusively for members and their families. We are thrilled to announce that we have awarded four $800 scholarships so the winners can purchase books and academic materials as they pursue higher education.
The book scholarship was open to Priority Partners members and their immediate families enrolled in a two- or four-year technical program, college, university or institution.
Please join us in congratulating the following four winners of our 2024 Priority Partners Book Scholarship:
Akindele Omotosho
Here are a few excerpts from his winning essay:
When I was eleven, a diagnosis of Crohn’s disease turned my world upside down. What could have been a devastating blow to my dreams became a catalyst for my passion in biological engineering and a future dedicated to health care and social services.
My goal is to design sustainable agricultural practices and bioengineered solutions that can improve health challenges and alleviate hunger and malnutrition, particularly in underserved communities.
The dedication of Priority Partners to accessible, quality health care has not only improved our lives, it has also inspired me to pursue a career where I can contribute to similar positive outcomes for others.
I am dedicated to addressing social determinants of health and improving public health through innovative solutions and community initiatives. By drawing inspiration from the positive impact of organizations like Priority Partners, I am confident in creating a healthier, more equitable future for all.
Ayana Crawl-Bey
Here are a few excerpts from her winning essay:
As a black woman and a future physician, public health is a knowledge set that will be intertwined into whatever specialty I choose. I believe it is my responsibility to use my platform to make sure I am preparing myself to help prevent recurring issues.
My goal as a physician is also to put an emphasis on health education and harm reduction, as they are the first steps taken toward a better lifestyle. Making those most affected aware of steps needed for improvement is critical — whether that be through vaccinations, safe sexual practices or access to healthy food.
Priority Partners has helped me continue a top-level standard of care with my limited income while in school, making it easy for me to continue with my appointments as scheduled.
To me, being a doctor is more than having an “MD” next to my name.
Christine Taylor
Here are a few excerpts from her winning essay:
Growing up in a low-income community, I witnessed the challenges people face in accessing essential health care services. These experiences ignited a strong desire in me to make a positive impact on the health care system, particularly in underserved communities.
Ultimately, my goal is to become a Registered Nurse who not only excels in clinical practice, but also advocates for patients and promotes health care equity.
Partnerships between health care providers, local governments and community organizations are essential to address issues such as food insecurity, inadequate housing and lack of transportation, all of which significantly impact health outcomes. By working together, we can create a more supportive environment that promotes overall well-being.
The peace of mind that comes with knowing I have reliable health care coverage has been invaluable, allowing me to focus on other important aspects of my life.
Jennifer Guillen
Here are a few excerpts from her winning essay:
I am a first generation immigrant who has the honor of attending college and studying nursing, which has always been my dream career path. I will be the first in my extended family to attend and graduate from college.
My dream goal is to serve my community as part of the health care field as a Latina registered nurse. As a bilingual nurse, I will break down barriers and give patients confidence that they are receiving the best health care available to them.
My sister, who is an eleven-year-old autistic child, has been able to get medical help and acquired physical therapy as well as speech therapy thanks to our Priority Partners coverage. Without Priority Partners coverage, she would not have been able to walk nor progress with her speech capabilities.
Throughout college I have been able to focus on my studies and worry less about the inability to find proper care when I am sick. I always know that Priority Partners has my back!
In addition to these winners, all applicants will receive a participation award. It is an honor to serve the health care needs of these outstanding young members. To all our applicants: thank you. We are so impressed with each of you.
Look for information on our 2025 scholarship in the coming months!
