It was a day of music, face painting and free, flavorful cooking demos. On June 10, Priority Partners Community Health Advocates (CHAs) presented another of its exciting Healthy Hacks community cooking demonstrations at the Party in the Park Family and Father’s Day Celebration in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Co-sponsored by Priority Partners, the event took place at Wheaton Regional Park and featured a live cooking demonstration by Chef Giacomo Scuito of Giacomo’s Brick Oven Pizza. It didn’t take long for the irresistible aroma of fresh spices to swirl through the park, attracting close to 100 festival-goers, thrilled by dazzling bursts of colorful vegetables and flame. A Montgomery County history teacher, Chef Scuito provided two demonstrations, serving up sizzling veggie and rice stir-fry while offering easy-to-follow techniques and tips for attendees to learn how to prepare simple, healthy meals for their families.
Following the demo, visitors were presented with the “Good and Cheap Cookbook” by LeAnn Brown and a gift card to purchase all the ingredients needed to make the stir-fry dish themselves at home. Attendees could also visit the Priority Partners table talk with CHAs and receive free lifestyle information and health resources. Over 500 people attended the Party in the Park event, which also included balloons, train rides, free food and information and assistance for registering children for pre-kindergarten and Head Start.
