Thousands of attendees brought their families, their appetites and their passion for African culture to this year’s annual Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival in Annapolis. Once again, Priority Partners was there to join in the fun and celebrate this one-of-a-kind event, which took place under a perfect late summer sky on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Visitors and families packed the grounds for the 34th year of the festival to sample the variety of foods, wander the arts and crafts kiosks and dance to live music in celebration of the cultural heritage of Africans, African Americans and Caribbean people of African descent.
Priority Partners proudly hosted the final session of our crowd-pleasing Healthy Hacks cooking demonstrations, featuring Chef Giacomo Scuito of Giacomo’s Brick Oven Pizza. Part of the Priority Partners Cupboards Project, the Healthy Hacks program provides free, live cooking demonstrations that show people how they can cook easy, healthy AND affordable meals.
Chef Scuito “wowed” the crowd at the Community Stage with his demonstration showing how to prepare Eggplant Pasta. Guests enjoyed free samples of the dish, peppered with lots of easy-to-follow tricks and tips on ways to prepare simple, healthy meals. After the demonstration, guests received a free cookbook along with Chef Scuito’s Eggplant Pasta recipe so they could make the dish at home.
Priority Partners attended the all-day event, providing visitors with free blood pressure checks, health resources and Medicaid renewal support. Visitors had the opportunity to meet with health plan representatives and community health professionals, get their flu shots, and enjoy refreshments, raffle contests and more. Priority Partners thanks Chef Scuito and the many attendees who visited our table and helped make this treasured community event a success.
