Giving Tuesday Celebrated With Two New Mini-Pantries

Giving Tuesday was a great day for the Laurel and Bladensburg communities. They each celebrated the grand opening of new Priority Partners Cupboards Project self-serve mini-pantries — the first in Prince George’s County.

The celebration kicked off with the unveiling of the first of the two mini-pantries at the Laurel Armory at 9 a.m. on Dec. 3. Then, at noon the same day, Priority Partners unveiled a second self-serve mini-pantry at the Bladensburg Town Hall. In attendance were Priority Partners’ CEO Ed Kumian, as well as many civic leaders, local charities and executives from Johns Hopkins Health Plans.

Along with the refreshments and fanfare, there was also a surprise guest appearance by the new Priority Partners mascot, Cubby the Cupboards Bear. Cubby delighted guests as he handed out stress balls, stickers and high-fives at both events. Learn all about Cubby and look for him to show up at more Priority Partners events.

Started in 2021 as a way to make sure everyone has access to healthy food, the Cupboards Project has placed several mini-pantries in Maryland neighborhoods and launched three “Club on the Go” mobile pantries. Working under the motto “Take What You Need, Leave What You Can,” the self-serve mini-pantries provide free healthy food and other items to underserved neighborhoods.
